Terms of service

These terms explain the agreement between you and First 1000 Words when you use the service.

Effective date:

1. Accepting these terms

By creating an account, purchasing a subscription, or using First 1000 Words, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You must be able to enter into a binding agreement in your location, or use the service with permission from a parent or legal guardian.

2. The service

First 1000 Words provides language-learning materials, spaced-repetition reviews, phrases, and optional vocabulary packs. Learning outcomes vary, and we do not guarantee fluency or a specific result within a particular period.

3. Accounts and access

You are responsible for providing an accurate email address and protecting access to your email account and one-time sign-in links. You may not share access in a way that circumvents subscription limits or use another person’s account without permission. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

4. Subscriptions and billing

Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe and renew for the billing period shown at checkout until canceled. Prices, billing frequency, and any trial or promotion terms are displayed before purchase. You authorize Stripe to charge your selected payment method for recurring fees and applicable taxes.

You can manage or cancel your subscription through the billing portal in Account settings. Cancellation stops future renewals and normally leaves access available through the end of the paid period. Except where required by law or expressly stated at purchase, fees already paid are non-refundable. Contact help@codefish.no if you believe a charge was made in error.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Break the law or infringe another person’s rights through the service.
  • Probe, disrupt, overload, or bypass the security of the service.
  • Use automated means to scrape, copy, or extract substantial service content.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the service or its content.
  • Upload or transmit malicious code or attempt unauthorized access.

6. Content and intellectual property

The service, its design, software, learning materials, and branding are owned by us or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service while your account is eligible for access. Third-party materials remain subject to their respective licenses.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep First 1000 Words available, but uninterrupted or error-free service is not guaranteed. We may maintain, improve, add, remove, or discontinue features. If a material change adversely affects a paid subscription, we will provide reasonable notice when practical.

8. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service or delete your account at any time. We may restrict or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect the service or others, comply with law, address non-payment, or respond to a material breach of these terms.

9. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent allowed by law. We disclaim implied warranties where legally permitted. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or opportunities arising from use of the service. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised terms here and update the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when reasonably possible. Continued use after the change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
